Directory Modernization

Scalable identity infrastructure for a growing multinational

The Challenge

Identity sprawl ahead of a major expansion

A multinational organization with 150 employees had operated without proper directory management or a unified identity solution. During the startup phase, the informality was manageable. With a planned expansion to 250+ staff, it had become untenable.

Fragmented user profiles across Google and multiple platforms created inefficiencies in onboarding, security gaps during offboarding, and complicated procedures for granting or revoking application access. Each new hire and each departure meant manual work across disconnected systems.

The Solution

JumpCloud as the organizational identity layer

RSystems recommended JumpCloud as the central identity provider — a cloud-based platform capable of unifying the organization's Google environment, cloud applications, and physical workstations under a single directory.

  • JumpCloud deployed as identity provider with Google username imports
  • Multi-factor authentication mandated across all access points
  • Cloud applications integrated: Slack, Zoom, Jira, Confluence, Trello, Personio, and Microsoft
  • Workstations bound to JumpCloud with synchronized local credentials

Implementation required sanitizing existing Google user data and standardizing usernames across platforms. Cloud service federation rolled out in phases with user guidance. Workstation binding received individualized attention to preserve existing home directories and user preferences — a detail that matters when you're asking 150 people to change how they log in.

Outcomes

What we delivered.

  • Within 18 months, the organization grew from 250 staff to over 1,000 — and the infrastructure scaled without missing a beat
  • Single directory managing Google, cloud applications, and workstations
  • MFA enforced across all JumpCloud access points
  • Ongoing AWS integration support and security audits over four years post-implementation
  • Onboarding and offboarding reduced from multi-system manual process to single-platform workflow
