Super Admin

Also known as: Global Administrator, Global Admin

Highest-privilege account on a platform — manages every user, changes any setting, grants or revokes all access.

A super admin (or global admin) is an account with the highest level of control over a platform — able to manage every user, change any setting, and grant or revoke anyone else's access. In Google Workspace it's the Super Admin role; in Microsoft 365 it's the Global Administrator.

Because these accounts can do anything, they're the most valuable target in your environment and deserve the most protection. Best practice is to keep the number of super admins small, secure them with phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication, and — wherever possible — assign top-level ownership to a dedicated service account rather than an individual's day-to-day login.

Super admin credentials are exactly the kind of thing that belongs in a password manager, retrieved deliberately when needed rather than used for routine work.
